DiPalermo Too Tough, Blanks West Michigan
Mike DiPalermo of the Great Lakes Loons was on top of his game.

The 24-year-old tantalized the West Michigan Whitecaps with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 6-0.

"He had the changeup working," West Michigan manager Noah Fourie said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Great Lakes hurler had 5 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 4 hits in his complete-game effort.

DiPalermo told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

For the year, DiPalermo has a 9-4 record with a 2.62 ERA in 15 starts.
