South Bend Cubs starter Matt Helsen turned in an exceptional performance against the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium, resulting in a South Bend win, 5-2. Jim Gamblin closed the game out for South Bend, earning his 2nd save. With the win over Fort Wayne, the Cubs improved to 27-88.

The Cubs got a big at-bat from left fielder Nigel Foster. For the game, Foster went 1 for 4 with a triple. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring triple. His 9th triple of the season gave South Bend a 1-0 lead.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Helsen told the South Bend News.
