Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at Dozer Park.

The Cedar Rapids Kernels outlasted Nate Amirault and the Peoria Chiefs, 11-10, in 12 innings. Amirault was impressive in the loss. The Peoria left fielder went 3 for 5 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. With the win over Peoria, the Kernels improved to 80-38.

Cedar Rapids used the timely hitting of Fletcher McGilvery to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Kernels on top, 10-9. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Baseball is a wild game -- a crazy game, sometimes," said McGilvery.
