Captains Beaten, 5-1, by Whitecaps

Alex Garza, who is tied for 6th in the MID with a 1.12 WHIP, never let the Captains get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Whitecaps to a win, 5-1. Garza, the winner, moves to 11-5. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 2 walks. With the victory, the Whitecaps upped their record to 60-60.
Ian Riddle had a big 2-run double for the Whitecaps in the bottom of the sixth inning. With West Michigan leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a cutter from 27-year old left-handed pitcher Eli Sheffield and swatted a double to left. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Whitecaps ahead, 4-0.
Riddle called the win "a team effort."
