Norfolk's Salazar, Pitcher of the Year Award Winner Thursday, October 11th , 2108 The Norfolk Tides have a rising superstar or maybe even a budding Hall-of-Famer in the making. It's Pedro Salazar, this year's International League Pitcher of the Year Award selection. This blossoming hurler wowed fans, peers and sportswriters with a fabulous performance. Salazar compiled a 15-6 record in 25 starts, tallied 209 strikeouts in 187.1 innings and recorded a 2.45 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .200 batting average against him. He received 14 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Lance Hearty of the Gwinnett Braves finished second in voting, while Larry Coyle of the Buffalo Bisons finished third.
