Omaha Snaps Lopez Streak at 21
Wednesday, July 8th , 2111
Willie Lopez's 21-game hitting streak was snapped at Werner Park. The 27-year-old Iowa Cubs right fielder failed to get a hit in 4 at-bats in the game against the Omaha Storm Chasers, but Iowa came out the winner, 4-2.
"I don't think the streak was ever a big deal to Willie," Cubs manager Chris Cooke said after the game. "He ain't that type of guy. He just wants to help the team win ballgames."
This season, Lopez has posted a batting average of .307 with 85 hits in 277 at-bats, 12 home runs and 47 RBIs. He has also scored 43 runs, walked 18 times and compiled a .348 OBP.
