Mondragon Slams 3 Homers for Chihuahuas
Monday, July 21st , 2110
The old superstition that "bad news comes in threes" certainly came true for the Fresno Grizzlies.
El Paso second baseman Miguel Mondragon tripled up on the home runs to propel the Chihuahuas to a win, 11-3, at Chukchansi Park.
"We had our chances to win the game, but we just didn't come through," Fresno manager Mike Gibson said. "Mondragon hit the heck out of the ball."
In addition to the homers, Mondragon collected 3 hits in 4 at-bats, 5 RBIs and scored 4 runs.
"Easy swings get you home runs," he said after the game. "I kept telling myself not to press. They have to be nice and easy swings."
Miguel Mondragon hit a solo-shot off Juan Mendez in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Juan Mendez in the 4th, walked in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Jim Norris in the 6th and flied out in the 8th.
This season, Mondragon is batting .225 with 52 hits, 10 home runs, 27 RBIs, 31 walks, .342 OBP and has scored 31 runs. He has played in 70 games.
