Wednesday, September 18th , 2109
The Birmingham Barons were paced by a strong offensive output from David Shank as they downed the Mississippi Braves 3-2 to win the Round 1.
Birmingham won the final game by a score of 7-3 at Regions Field to send themselves off to the Round 2.
"I wasn't so much focused on putting up big offensive numbers as I was about ensuring we won the games. So it's mission accomplished there," said center fielder Shank, who was named MVP.
For the series, the MVP hit .409 with a .435 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 6 runs.
The Birmingham Barons will play against the Chattanooga Lookouts in the next round. Chattanooga won their series against the Biloxi Shuckers 3 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
