Clayton Twirls No-Hitter Against Drillers
Friday, August 31st , 2108
Xavier Clayton relied on excellent pitch selection and pinpoint control to hold Tulsa hitless in a win, 3-0, at Hammons Field.
"Nobody goes out to pitch a no-hitter," he said later. "We just go out and try to get a win. A 10-9 win is better than a 1-0 loss. My pitching buddies might not be too happy giving up nine runs but a win is a win. The key to it today was I mixed my pitches well. I kept the Drillers off balance and guessing the whole game."
The 33-year-old starter rung up 6 strikeouts and 1 walk in whipping the Drillers.
"When a guy is throwing strikes the way he was and is locating well, it is going to be a long day for any club," Tulsa skipper Nate Bouse said.
Checking out his stats for the year, Clayton has racked up 7 wins and 9 losses in 20 starts, posted a 3.94 ERA, and struck out 119 batters in 125.2 innings.
