They came up empty when it mattered against Potomac Nationals right-hander Manny Serrano, who scattered 5 hits across 9 innings and held the Mudcats scoreless. "We had 5 hits so I know he wasn't completely untouchable, but he was close," Carolina manager Jason Hawkins said later. Serrano chalked up 6 strikeouts and 2 walks in the 5-0 Nationals win.
