St. Lucie Takes Round 1 in Deciding Game
Tuesday, September 15th , 2105
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Tradition Field as the Round 1 stretched to the final game.
It was the St. Lucie Mets feeling the thrill of victory, with a 7-3 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Round 2.
"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Jupiter manager Mark Williamson. "Congratulations to St. Lucie, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."
Instrumental in the 3-2 series win was shortstop Brendan Francois, who was named MVP. He hit .588 with a .632 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 8 RBI and scored 5 runs.
"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.
The St. Lucie Mets will play against the Dunedin Blue Jays in the next round. Dunedin won their series against the Brevard County Manatees 3 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
