Whitecaps Hayes Tames South Bend Thursday, May 28th , 2111 Goose eggs were the order of the day for the South Bend Cubs as starter Dan Hayes shut them out, 12-0, at Fifth Third Ballpark. The West Michigan pitcher struck out 4 and walked 0 while allowing 5 hits. "Hayes was good but he wasn't flawless," South Bend manager Ray Behm said. "We had a few opportunities to make something happen and we didn't do it. Not to take anything away from West Michigan, but this is on us." So far this year, Hayes has a 8-0 record with a 1.83 ERA.
