Fort Wayne Shut Out by Willis
Wednesday, June 5th , 2097
All went well for Andy Willis of the South Bend Cubs as he pitched his team to a 1-0 shutout victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps, limiting them to 4 hits. In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Willis on the day.
"Andy's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy," said Cubs manager Mike Medrano. "He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful."
In the contest, the South Bend right-hander rang up 9 and surrendered no walks.
"He didn't give us any second chances," said TinCaps manager Adam Will. "It's a guessing game with him and today we were always guessing wrong."
Looking at his season stats, Willis has won 6 and lost 3, collecting 86 strikeouts and 23 walks in 89 innings with a 2.43 ERA.
