Quad Cities Blanks Clinton, 3-0
Friday, July 3rd , 2111
The Clinton LumberKings were almost helpless in their 3-0 loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits and hurler Luis Castillo. Castillo kept the LumberKings confused all game, spinning a 4-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Castillo," Clinton manager Matt Vining said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 24-year-old right-hander had 3 walks and 4 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Castillo said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
This season, Castillo has a 6-7 mark in 16 starts with a 2.60 ERA. He has given up 105 hits in 117.2 innings, struck out 112 and issued 27 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .236 batting average against him.
