MID Honors Lake County Third Baseman Monday, August 18th , 2110 No single hit brought Ben Roller Player of the Week honors -- the Lake County Captains third baseman corralled the award with a consistent approach in every at-bat. "Hitting is all about discipline," said Roller. "When you lose focus, start to lunge at the ball and swing too aggressively... swinging at a lot of bad pitches... that's when your average starts to drop and you wind up fighting for playing time. You're most successful when you concentrate on the ball and make 'em throw strikes." Concentrate he did. Roller stroked 11 hits in 22 at-bats while cranking out no home runs, 7 RBIs and 4 runs scored. This year, Roller is hitting .364, produced 11 RBIs and 1 home runs, scored 10 times and gotten on base at a .435 rate. |
