Charleston Hopeless Against Barcia
Sunday, May 18th , 2110
Jason Barcia of the Hickory Crawdads was on top of his game.
The 22-year-old tantalized the Charleston RiverDogs with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 1-0.
"He had the changeup working," Charleston manager Brandon Lacey said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Hickory hurler had 9 strikeouts, gave up 1 walk and surrendered 4 hits in his complete-game effort.
Barcia told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
Barcia has made 5 starts so far this year and put up a 2-2 won-lost record with a 2.93 ERA. In 30.2 innings he has allowed 22 hits, walked 9 and struck out 35.
