Asheville-Rome Brawl, Velez and Anderson Suspended Sunday, August 10th , 2110 If there wasn't a history between Santiago Velez of Asheville and Bill Anderson of Rome, then there is one now. The incident between the two sparked a bench-clearing scrum with those two being the center of attention. Now they will miss 3 and 6 games respectively as a result of their actions. The league office announced their suspensions today. "We're both really competitive," Velez said later, "and sometimes things go a little too far because of it." So far this year, Velez is hitting .298 with 3 home runs. In 22 starts this season, Anderson has crafted a 8-6 record with a 3.20 ERA. |
