Longstreth Bashes 3 HR for Connecticut
Thursday, July 10th , 2110
Connecticut Tigers first baseman Jon Longstreth put on a dazzling display of power at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium against the Vermont Lake Monsters. In the 12-0 Tigers victory, Longstreth penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Vermont manager Dana Joseph said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."
Along with his three home runs, the 25-year-old had 4 hits in 5 at-bats, 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Longstreth said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."
Jon Longstreth struck out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Mike Thompson in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Mike Thompson in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Rafael Acevedo in the 8th.
