League Suspends Villalobos
Saturday, August 31st , 2109
The agitation was hot and heavy at Eastwood Field yesterday. After a called third strike Black Bears shortstop Willie Villalobos protested the call in no uncertain terms. While he and the home plate umpire were jawing face-to-face, a few bumps took place and Villalobos was ejected from the game.
"It was verbal, nothing more," according to Villalobos. However, the league frowned on what transpired and suspended him for 4 games.
"The league will never tolerate a player touching an umpire in anger," the commissioner said in the suspension notification.
This year, Villalobos has collected a .211 batting average to date with 8 hits in 38 at-bats, 2 RBIs, 1 home run and scored 5 times. He has played in 21 games.
