Van Winkle Sensational, 5-for-5 Wednesday, August 7th , 2109 Matt Van Winkle was at the head of a Pulaski Yankees hit parade at Calfee Park. The 20-year-old went to the plate 5 times and came away with 5 hits, but it was the Bluefield Blue Jays that marched off with the 10-5 win. "We didn't have it today," griped Yankees skipper Steve Chase following the game. "Matt did fine, but as a team, we didn't do it with the bats and we didn't do it pitching." Van Winkle did more than fine, dominating the Blue Jays at the plate during his record-making 5-for-5 performance. "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging shortstop told reporters. "When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats." Matt Van Winkle singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and doubled in the 9th. Van Winkle is hitting .221 in 2109 with 12 RBIs and 2 home runs.
