Bastidas Slaps 5 Hits

After a 5-hit effort to lead Baltimore (Rk+)'s 16-3 victory over the Greeneville Astros, right fielder Luis Bastidas told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Appalachian League-level is really something special."

The 18-year-old player earned his accolades at Ballpark of Pearl River with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Astros.

"His swing is getting there," said Orioles skipper Landon Moon, who spoke glowingly of Bastidas after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Luis did that to perfection."

Luis Bastidas doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Jim Unknown in the 6th, flied out in the 7th and singled in the 8th.

This year, Bastidas is batting .385 with 10 hits, 2 home runs, 9 RBIs, 5 walks, .500 OBP and has scored 9 runs.
