Crutchley Goes 5-for-5
Friday, August 12th , 2107
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Billy Crutchley, it came around today.
The 19-year-old center fielder scattered hits all over Papago Park Sports Facility to pace the 8-6 San Francisco (AZL) Giants victory over the Oakland (AZL) Athletics.
Oakland (AZL) skipper Shawn Campbell told reporters in the press room that "Crutchley deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Crutchley hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Billy Crutchley singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
This year, Crutchley is hitting .516, produced 5 RBIs and 0 home runs, scored 3 times and gotten on base at a .543 rate.
