Eppinger Torches Yankees for 5 Hits Thursday, August 27th , 2111 A jubilant David Eppinger joined the postgame press conference at Timberwolves Stadium to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the New York A (GCL) Yankees pitching staff he had just vanquished. "It may not have looked like it," said the Boston (GCL) Red Sox shortstop, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different." That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-6 hitting performance, which led to the 14-4 Red Sox win. "He made it look easy," said Mike Mathis, manager of the Yankees. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously." David Eppinger singled in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, walked in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
