Marchena Goes Hitless, Streak Stopped at 23 Saturday, August 20th , 2107 Pittsburgh (GCL) catcher Javier Marchena experienced something against the Tampa Bay (GCL) Rays he hadn't experienced a while: a hitless game. The Rays pitching corps quieted his hot bat and snapped his streak at 23 games, but his teammates picked up the slack to lead the Pirates to a 8-1 victory at Pirate City Complex. "Hey, ain't nothin' bad about a losing a 23-game hitting streak," Marchena joked with reporters after the game. "Now you guys will have to find someone else to bother for stories." In 53 games this season, Marchena has compiled a .339 batting average with 74 hits and 6 home runs. He has also scored 36 times and knocked in 31 runs. |
