He's in the early phase of his career, but this past season Leo Magana performed like a veteran on the hill for the Philadelphia (GCL) Phillies and walked away with the Gulf Coast Rookie League Best Pitcher Award in the process.

The 21-year-old Phillies star fashioned a 10-2 won-loss record in 2098 with a 2.15 ERA. In 88 innings of work and 15 starts, Magana struck out 86 while giving up 78 hits and 23 walks. He held opposing batters to a .236 average.

He received 10 first place votes out of a possible 16. Mike Cedeno of the Philadelphia (GCL) Phillies finished second in voting with 6 first place votes, while Ken Moscatelli of the Philadelphia (GCL) Phillies finished third.
