GCL Awards Best Player Award, Sharpe Gets Prize

Chris Sharpe took Gulf Coast Rookie League by storm this year, and he did it all at the age of 22.
For his spectacular campaign, the Houston (GCL) Astros star has been named the 2098 Gulf Coast Rookie League Best Player Award recipient.
"To be considered amongst the best in the league is overwhelming," said the second baseman.
On the season he compiled a .396 batting average to go with a .484 on-base percentage. The native of Virginia Beach, Virginia also added 18 doubles, 13 triples, 8 home runs, 54 RBIs and 72 runs scored.
He received 8 first place votes out of a possible 16. Steve Lennon of the Philadelphia (GCL) Phillies finished second in voting with 8 first place votes, while Chris Oakley of the Houston (GCL) Astros finished third.
