St. Paul Helpless Against Melnik, Lose 4-0
Sunday, June 1st , 2110
The St. Paul Saints were almost helpless in their 4-0 loss to the Bakersfield Otters and hurler Doug Melnik. Melnik kept the Saints confused all game, spinning a 2-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Melnik," St. Paul manager Ryan Prince said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 28-year-old left-hander had 2 walks and 6 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Melnik said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
For the season, Melnik has logged 2 wins and no losses and struck out 14 batters in 16.2 innings while compiling a 2.16 ERA.
