Vance to Donate Kidney to Ailing Cousin
Sunday, August 9th , 2111
Kansas City catcher Richard Vance has decided to retire from baseball in order to donate a kidney to his cousin. Doctors say Vance's cousin, who has advanced kidney disease, probably won't survive without a new organ.
"As much as I love the game of baseball, I love my cousin more," said Vance. "I'm just doing what I would hope someone would do for me if I needed it."
Lance Williams had nothing but praise for his teammate.
"Richard is such an incredible guy. To walk away from all of this to help someone he cares about just shows how much class he has."
His manager, Roland Falk, was equally impressed with Vance's generosity. "It takes a lot of character to make a sacrifice like that. We wish him and his cousin all the best and we'll definitely be praying for their speedy recovery."
