Winnipeg's Sterken Suspended Monday, September 1st , 2098 The agitation was hot and heavy at Shaw Park yesterday. After a called third strike Goldeyes first baseman Mike Sterken protested the call in no uncertain terms. While he and the home plate umpire were jawing face-to-face, a few bumps took place and Sterken was ejected from the game. "It was verbal, nothing more," according to Sterken. However, the league frowned on what transpired and suspended him for 3 games. "The league will never tolerate a player touching an umpire in anger," the commissioner said in the suspension notification. A look at his current stats shows Sterken with a .273 average, 23 home runs, 77 RBIs and 67 runs scored. He has played in 94 games. |
