Vargas Collects Cycle
Monday, August 5th , 2080
It was a special day for Jordan Vargas at Sprenger Health Care Systems Stadium -- the Lake Erie Crushers center fielder hit for the cycle, getting every type of hit possible.

The 26-year-old Vargas racked up 2 singles, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run to get his name in the history books. It was all for naught, however, as the Crushers didn't win the ballgame, dropping the decision to the Washington Wild Things, 10-7.

"He hit everything we threw," said Washington manager Blake Jefferson. "There was just no getting him out today."

For the game, he was 5-for-5 with 2 runs batted in and 3 runs scored.

"I'm glad for Jordan," Lake Erie manager Keith Cantwell said. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime thing and a nice feather in his cap. Would've been better if we could have won the game for him, too."

Speaking to the press after the game, Vargas said the key for his record-setting day was "just getting some good pitches to hit."

Jordan Vargas doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, tripled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Omar Rodriguez in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.

This year Vargas has collected a .407 batting average to date with 24 hits in 59 at-bats, 15 RBIs, 8 home runs and scored 14 times. He has played in 14 games.
