Home Run a Record-Setter for Gatrell
Monday, February 1st, 2044
Justin Gatrell raised both arms over his head like a victorious prize fighter, fists clenched -- and then he took off. It was over at last -- the Pittsburgh (AFL) Pirates superman had just blasted roundtripper number 26 of his career and snatched the league record from the previous holder, Mario Dominguez.

After circling the bases Gatrell stomped on home plate and saluted the standing crowd, which continued to cheer as he made two curtain calls. It has been years since it became apparent that Gatrell was a real threat to the home run record, and he was clearly pleased to have the pursuit over.

"I'm so happy it's over," he said with a laugh and theatrical sigh of relief at the postgame press conference. "It's an amazing record to hold, but not a very fun one to chase."

Justin Gatrell flied out in the 2nd, struck out in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Danny Glaser in the 6th and homered off Brian Hemenway in the 7th.

Gatrell has a .470 average and a .557 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 31 hits, 9 home runs and driven in 20 runs.
