Emeralds Prevail, as Round 1 Goes to the Wire
|
In a series that had a little bit of everything, the Eugene Emeralds have edged the Everett AquaSox.
The two rival clubs went the distance in the tightly-contested Round 1, with a 2-1 win in the clincher being the difference for Eugene and giving them the ticket to the Round 2 with a 3-2 series triumph.
"We never stopped believing in ourselves. When push came to shove we were going to get it done," said Bill Weisbrod, who was named series MVP.
For the series, Weisbrod hit .190 with a .227 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 4 runs.
The Eugene Emeralds will play against the Chicago A (SS-A) White Sox in the next round. Chicago A (SS-A) won their series against the Spokane Indians 3 games to 0. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
