RubberDucks Need Extra Innings to Top Thunder, 9-6
|
The Akron RubberDucks defeated the Trenton Thunder in 10 innings, 9-6, in part because of second baseman Niko Von Meyer. Von Meyer was 4 for 6 with a home run and 2 doubles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the RubberDucks. At 31-53, Akron is in last place in the Southern Division.
Akron used the timely hitting of Mike Mordaunt to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the RubberDucks on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Baseball is a wild game -- a crazy game, sometimes," said Mordaunt.
