The Kansas City (SS-A) Royals started the 2107 season not with a bang but with a whimper, falling, 9-2, to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes at Melaleuca Field. Right Fielder Felix Cancino was the top performer for Salem-Keizer.

John Barlow had a big 3-run home run for the Volcanoes in the top of the seventh inning. With Salem-Keizer leading 5-2 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a changeup from Bobby Cleckley and swatted a home run to left. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Volcanoes ahead, 8-2.

"No one player deserves all the credit when you win," Barlow said. "And the same is true when you lose."
