Red Sox Listless in 10-0 Loss to RailRiders Tuesday, June 25th , 2109 The Pawtucket Red Sox had no answer for Scranton WB RailRiders pitcher Chase Gifford. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 10-0. Pawtucket managed only 2 hits off Gifford, who had 6 strikeouts. The extraordinarily popular Gifford got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd. "RailRiders fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible." So far this year, Gifford has made 4 starts, tossed 37 innings, struck out 31 batters and walked 14. His record is 1-2 with a 3.89 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .241 batting average.
