Cruz, on Top of His Game, Beats Gwinnett, 2-0
Thursday, July 27th , 2113
It wasn't easy but the Pawtucket Red Sox made it look that way.
Starter Carlos Cruz shut out the Gwinnett Braves despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Pawtucket Red Sox cruised to victory, 2-0. Cruz allowed only 7 hits and rang up 8 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."
Over the season Cruz has thrown 126 innings and dished out 91 strikeouts with a 5-12 mark and a 4.86 ERA.
