Trenton Comes up Empty Against McKenzie
Saturday, June 20th , 2111
The Trenton Thunder manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Akron RubberDucks. The Thunder were overpowered by Akron starter Ryan McKenzie, who hurled his club to victory, 8-0.

"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Pat Gilman said.

Over 9 innings, McKenzie blanked Trenton on 4 hits with 3 walks and 12 strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," McKenzie said.

"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

McKenzie has gone 3-2 this season with an ERA of 5.26 and 33 strikeouts in 37.2 innings pitched. Other clubs are hitting .265 against him.
