Great Lakes Takes Round 1 in Deciding Game Tuesday, September 11th , 2108 The Great Lakes Loons and South Bend Cubs held nothing back in an entertaining Round 1 that went the distance. In the end, it will be Great Lakes advancing to the Round 2, after a 6-2 triumph in the final game at Dow Diamond, to wrap up the series 3-2. The Loons players celebrated jubilantly in their clubhouse after the game, while the scene was one of dismay on the opposing side for the Cubs. Jonathan Covas was named series MVP for Great Lakes. For the series, Covas hit .444 with a .524 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 0 RBI and scored 5 runs. The Great Lakes Loons will play against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in the next round. Wisconsin won their series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels 3 games to 1.
