West Virginia Blanked by Lauver, 6-0 Friday, August 14th , 2111 The West Virginia Black Bears were almost helpless in their 6-0 loss to the State College Spikes and hurler Joe Lauver. Lauver kept the Black Bears confused all game, spinning a 7-hit shutout. "Tip your hat to Lauver," West Virginia manager Ken Dugles said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night." The 23-year-old right-hander had 4 walks and 8 strikeouts in a strong performance. "It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Lauver said.
