State College Takes Round 1 in Deciding Game Wednesday, September 18th , 2109 The State College Spikes are heading to the Round 2, having narrowly defeated the Connecticut Tigers. State College edged Connecticut in the series 3-2, with a win at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium in the clinching game by a 6-1 margin. Steve Dobbs turned in a strong offensive performance for the Spikes and got series MVP for his efforts. "I'll never turn down another trophy for my mantle, another accomplishment to remember once my career is over," he said. "What I would really remember, though, is a Round 2 win." It remains to be seen how the playoffs will conclude, but if Dobbs continues to swing a hot bat, his team will no doubt have a chance. For the series, he hit .476 with a .500 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, 5 RBI and scored 3 runs. The State College Spikes will play against the Hudson Valley Renegades in the next round.
