Lake Monsters Advance to Round 2 Wednesday, September 16th , 2111 In an exciting Round 1 that had its fair share of drama and intrigue, perhaps it is New York-Penn League fans who have come out the winner. But on the field, the winners were the Vermont Lake Monsters, who edged the West Virginia Black Bears 3-2 to advance to the Round 2. Vermont won the final game by a 8-4 count to wrap up the series. Alvaro Rodriguez earned series MVP honors, by hitting .350 with a .350 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 2 runs. The Vermont Lake Monsters will play against the Aberdeen Ironbirds in the next round. Aberdeen won their series against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 3 games to 0.
