New York-Penn League fans were certainly not disappointed with this New York-Penn League Round 1.

The two teams were evenly matched and the series went to the final game, with the Vermont Lake Monsters prevailing over the Brooklyn Cyclones to advance to the Round 2.

Vermont won the final game by a score of 9-4 at MCU Park and that sealed the series 3-2.

"Things were tense in our clubhouse and dugout before and during this game, but we can let loose a bit now -- the hard work is over, for now," said left fielder Craig Svare, who earned MVP honors.

For the series, Svare hit .316 with a .333 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, 6 RBI and scored 1 runs.

The Vermont Lake Monsters will play against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in the next round. Mahoning Valley won their series against the Williamsport Crosscutters 3 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
