In a surprising swap, Pittsburgh has picked up 30-year old RHP Luis Ramos, 32-year old RHP Bobby Wright, 19-year old minor league RHP Salvador Veras, 24-year old minor league SS Jesus Sanchez, and 17-year old minor league 2B Dan Esponesa from San Diego in exchange for 26-year old RHP Brian Buck and 25-year old RHP Ross Sanders. Sources from both teams said the deal only materialized within the past few days.

“We were inquiring about some other players,” Pirates GM Vermesch explained. “We were not expecting to make a deal of this magnitude, but it came together rather quickly.”

In his career Sanders has made 105 appearances with a 14-6 record and tossed 122.1 innings with 154 strikeouts. Batters have hit .226 against him, his lifetime ERA stands at 2.50 and he has accumulated 5 saves.

Thus far in his career, Wright has 111 victories and 52 defeats with a 3.60 ERA. He has limited other teams to a .230 average.
